THERE ONCE WAS A LITTLE BOY NAMED KEVIN…

Kevin naturally found himself observing life and having a word come to mind, but if he expressed his thoughts, other people gave him an odd look. Yes, he understood seeing a lovely picture and calling it “beautiful” or seeing two people laughing and labeling it “joy.” But something was still missing for him. Kevin was seeking a larger appreciation of words and the spirit of their meaning in the context of life.

One day, he was laughing at his sister while she tried to swat a fly in the house. BAM! He found his answer in a common housefly, the only quick flying creature that sees human activity from both inside and outside … virtually everywhere. Suddenly, Kevin began to live his life and view it as if he were the “fly on the wall.” Today, Kevin passes his perspective on to others in what he likes to call Kevin’s Dictionary.

Wow! The way that Kevin relates to and conveys stories from SO MANY different perspectives, is mind-blowing! Life… in a word gets the job done as a gift/tabletop book, yet at the same time, has the ability to open hearts and minds to emotions & empathy they may not have known prior to picking up this little gem. Can’t wait for the others!!

KEVIN WAS WOEFULLY PREPARED FOR THE POLITICS OF LIFE…

As Kevin began life, and then entered his teenage years, he experienced a lot of what can only be defined as politics, as many of us do. However, he continued to wear his heart on his sleeve throughout those years and into his mid-20s, but the burden was heavy. Like it or not, Kevin was going to have to accept the notion that politics wasn’t just something you heard about or saw on the nightly news, but an intrinsic part of his everyday life.

So, in that key moment of unfortunate acceptance, he turned his eye to seeing as much of the politics in his own actions and life as he could, as well as watching the behavior and words of others. Once this practice became a daily routine, he was amazed at how the forms of our governmental politics were really born and evolved from how we engage and do business with one another on Main Street, U.S.A., not just in the White House.

“Politics in a Word,” in a poignantly folksy way, opens the drapes to some much needed ‘sunshine’ on the politics in our everyday life. The book, through either a story itself or a memorable phrase, gradually made me, a person happily apolitical, reflect, get inspired, and take action. Kevin’s words don’t ignore party divisions but his overall message transcends that and it was there I ‘felt’ the book, and now its companion tee (and message), and figured there might be others like me and we should reach them too!

It’s hard not to follow politics over the past few years and just when I had about enough of all this political noise, I happened across this great little gift book,“Politics…in a word” by Kevin E. West. After the first sentence I had to read it word for word. What a concept. I found it outstandingly insightful, humorous, clever and direct!
